I need help to identify this badge. I think it is a badge from the russian Empire. Unfortunately I do not know anything about this badge. I would appreciate any information. best regards, Sylvia |

It is a Courier Corps cockade that has been converted from a screwback to a pinback.

Re: Please help identify
Hello,
many thanks for your help. You know from what era it comes? Empire or soviet? Maybe do you have a photo or a link to a website i can find some more information. Is this badge from a cap or from a uniform? Many thanks for your helpful information, Sylvia |

Re: Please help identify
It probably dates from the early 20th century. It would have been affixed to headwear. The Imperial Courier Corps was founded on 17th December 1796 and collapsed with the Tsar. An internal state and military mail carrier.
The current "descendant" of the Courier Corps is the State Courier Service Of The Russian Federation. Not a combatant's piece but a nice obscure insignia. The current State Courier Service will be a considerably smaller service than the original Corps due to the increased speed of communication. Digital communications are considerably less dependant on manpower than hand delivering a communique along a chain of couriers from Petrograd to Vladivostok.
