Desk Award To Major-General Petr Grigor'evich Kostenko
Hi gentlemen, I don't know if this subject has a place here, here's a piece given to gen-mayor piotr grigorevitch kostenko, 1st deputy chief of military region of odessa, from the general mayor of artillery E.G. Bobrov. Odessa, 1978.
very kitsch!

Moved...
I moved this thread from flags....
These type of desk awards are neat, and pretty common. I have seen many for sale in Russia, but they are a MAJOR pain to bring back on your own. I was with a friend last year in Russia and Ukraina and he had 4 of thses types of awards in his suitcase; every customs official wanted to spend about an hour each going through his bag! I had to wait for him many times ( we flew 9 times). Still, he now has a neat little collection. DD |

they're now very rare here. A friend of mine has a huge one consisting of two Yakovlev 28 "Firebar" jet interceptors pointing towards the sky, a model scale in metal 2 feet long!
I forgot the compulsory T-54, PT-76 and other guns...

Desk Ornaments
Hi gentlemen, I don't know if it is the best place to put this , but I thinks you would appreciate to see some desk ornaments, often unique pieces, and typical and desirable soviet pieces of "art"....
a first one:

Desk ornament
A nice table ornament - a statue of a soldier.
My question is - is it a miniature of some munument? If so, where is this monument? It has no inscriptions on it. Many thanks in advance |

Nikolaev/Mykolaev, Ukraine...
Look on page 47 of "Echoes of War" for a photo Paul took. It's of a monument in Nikolaev (now Mykolaev), Ukraine. I have the same statue.
