NKVD Cap Badge.
I am looking to determine the possible date of this NKVD star. On what sort of cap was it used? All comments welcome. . .

Re: NKVD star
[Keep in mind, I'm out of USSR collecting it more or less] -- how do you distinguish NKVD stars from standard police?

Re: NKVD star
Here is a similar (though a bit later) cap badge on a Militia cap.

First thing - count the ribbons. Five on each side plus Russia at the bottom (center) is 11. That means before WWII and the addition of Moldova, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, KFSFR. SO asume late 30's up to WWII before they had time to update.
After that once you have 11 ribbons, stop there. By 1947 all had been updated. That star just above my last post has 8 ribbons on the left side (and 7 on the right plus Russia front and center = 16 republics which is 1940 - 1956). The KFSSR was downgraded from union republic (a ribbon for them appears on USSR badges) to ASSR in 1956. Yours pre-dates that, so before 1940. Basically call it the 1930's. Re: NKVD star
Aharim,
I think the 11 scrolls was 1940-1946, then the 16 came about, so the star I posted was probably immediate postwar, the first star was war time. For it to be before 1940 I think it had to be 7 scrolls. DougD |
