The New Home Of The Soviet Awards Page Forum.
Art,
First off, I want to thank you for relocating us to the new home! I can't believe how fast the forum is running now!!! I also like the new user interface of the V3. Is there a reason why the URL changed? I mean this one is simpler and easier to type so I personally am happy! Once more, THANK YOU! Rusty.

Rusty,
Thank you! member donations are how we bought our new home they deserve thanks as well. You don't know how good it feels to finally get out of the old web space provider. They were good 8 years ago, but like any growing family we needed a "bigger house". They were truly a nightmare to deal with though. The reason for the new name is simple. I didn't own it, my old webspace provider owned it. It wasn't portable. I kept the same name, only I dropped their name out of the domain name and I then registered it. So, instead of http://soviet-awards.addr.com, we are now http://www.soviet-awards.com I will keep the old website open at the bare bones level, just enough to keep a re-direct page online for all those who haven't bookmarked the new site. Regarding VB3, I like it 100% better than the old forum. It is written much better and has optimized features for speed. There a few bugs which I am killing as I go, but I expect these to pop up here and there. Fortunately, VBulletin has a great support forum and the tech guys know their stuff. Most bug-killing involves editing a piece of code then re-installing it. No problem. If anyone has any problems, please let me know. I kill the bugs as I see them, but if I don't know about them I can't kill 'em. Art Quote:

Christophe,
I fee exactly the same way about having it closed for what seemed like a month. Unfortunately, it was necessary. My previous webspace provider was very lackluster in providing timely tech support, and I needed it this time. I had to close the old forum down because I didn't know when these guys would make the complete backup of the database. They wouldn't allow me to do this myself or else I would have and we would have been back in two days. I hounded them for days until they got so sick of me and realized the best way to get rid of me was to give me what I wanted Credit for the translator goes to Mr. Tal Inbar. He suggested it months ago and I told him I would definitely install it once 3.0 came out. It is a great service. Art Quote:

Thanks Eric!
I suggest everyone explore for awhile to check out the many new features of the software. One neat feature is the ability to change the way you view the threads. While reading a thread, click on the "display mode" button at the top right of the thread window, select any of the options and see how the display of the thread is changed. It works great if there is a huge thread, you can look through all the mesages. Art Quote:

Art,
Just a technical point... I don't think it is a bug... : When you have searched for "new posts", and have read them; it seems that you have to go back to the home page for marking them as all read... (except if I am wrong...). Would it be possible to have the function "mark them read" on the same page as "new posts" ? In my opinion, and if possible with the software, this would be a plus. However, a great new software !!! Cheers. Ch. |

Christophe,
I'll check it out on Vbulletins site. If it's a bug, chances are it's been addressed. Art

Eric,
Glad to hear you like it! there are many differences between the old and the new. Many aren't visible on the surface but make the software much more efficient than the last version. Much nicer than the last version in my opinion. Art Quote:
