Any good documentaries?

Are there any good documentaries out there in English on the collapse of the soviet union?

Re: Any good documentaries?

Other fellows can chime in on documentaries, but an absolutely excellent book on the subject is called "Lenin's Tomb: The Last Days of the Soviet Empire." It had even won a Pulitzer!

Re: Any good documentaries?

This thread is relevant to my interests

One that is not Soviet, but worth checking out is the BBC production of "Yugoslavia: Death of a Nation." I need to get a copy on DVD...have it via the internet, but want something I can use with my students.

Re: Any good documentaries?

I enjoyed the EU produced "The Soviet Story" and the BBC's "Stalin Behind Closed Doors" in fact there are so many BBC documentaries worth mentioning that I will have to go away and compile a list. I have the Yugoslavia documentary but have not yet got round to watching it. Believe it or not another thing I collect is Documentaries... I prefer the ones that at very least have English subtitles because watching German language Austrian TV programmes broadcast on Danish TV with Danish subtitles and viewing in Sweden sometimes made my head hurt!

I too would be interested in a good English language documentary.

Funny, but I still remember were I was (parking lot of the Rouge axle plant, hearing it on my car radio), when news broke of the coup in 1991. One of those moments in politics/history.
