white tunic...
...ok, I have not seen one like this before, for sale on E.
Opinions...looks made up to me, but don't want to jump to any conclusions, but the collar tabs, the odd sleeve insignia, etc. Maybe its police summer. DD |

Doug,
OK a bit of detective work here, I happen to know the seller of this uniform quite well. I have bought about 600 photogrpahs from him (some real rare ones too) and some uniforms (a 1980s DMB VDV uniform and a naval uniform). He is pretty reasonable with his prices too but I must say that this uniform looks a bit sus to me. Anyway about the uniform: To me it looks like a summer naval uniform with either M1958 or M1969 motor-rifle leutenant-colonel shoulder boards. I say either because the double breasted opening was phased out for officers in 1958. The wound stripes seem a bit out of place (and which if original would mean that this uniform is military). White parade uniforms seem to have been exclusively for cosmonauts but not with a double breasted opening. The red collar tabs appear to be of the M1949 pattern but they look like greatcoat collar patches. My personal opinion is that it is a made up from original pieces.

I agree with vikingraider1 and Doug this is made up from a naval tunic. I have one with naval shoulderboards dated 1985.

I'm still not sure...
I don't know of naval tunics having the red piping around the collar; also, whats witht he sleeve patch. I still think it might be police of some sort, if not 100% just made up.

Doug,
I see where you are coming from with the police uniform. There were white uniforms with red piping intoruduced in 1958 for police officers but they were single breasted. The sleeve patch looks green with red piping to me but I would need a better look to make my mind up.

I too have never heard of a white double breasted tunic with red piping around the collar (in M55 pattern). Maybe it is some odd medical service - I mean ministry of health and not army medical - uniform??

I think you are making a misstake when you think the piping is original. Labor is cheap in Russia and this could have been added later, just like the patch. I don't think we will get any closer than this on the problem without better photos.
...and I still think it looks like a naval uniform... ;) /Kim

I don't agree
Neither the cuffs nor collar look naval to me. Also, I don't see the point in adding piping to the collar of a cheap tunic like this. I don't think it was added, don;t see any evidence that it was so I will go with the idea it was always there.
I still tend to think police....of some sort. DD |

The point of adding something, even on a cheap tunic, is of course making it rare and more expensive. You say that you have never seen anything like it. Somebody with way too much cash to spend and no knowledge could say the same thing. Also it hard to see anything from that pic. But I guess we just disagree.
