Orlenok 1982
Hello all,
Some months ago, I bought those cheap "medals" on E! from the famous Russian seller (Tanya) which many people here know very well for also having bought several or many items from her. So, I was wondering if anybody had more info about them. Is there a reason why one looks more like bronze color and the other more golden color... are they 3rd and 1st places or it is just a difference in manufacture, so they are the same otherwise. Note they have the exact same obverse and reverse, only the color is different. Also, I would like to find more information about those games, "Orlenok", what were they exactly? I am sure someone here already saw such '"medals" and can educate me on them. Last edited by CtahhR; 09-21-2012 at 04:14 PM. |

It was a pioneer's camp if memory does not fail me.

"Starti Nadezhd" (Starts of Hope) are all Union games for pioneers. The games were hold in the Pioneer Camp "Orlenok" every year (summer). The games included the track and field sports only.

Merci Marc and Thank you Eric for the information. :thumbsup
Eric, your pin is also from 1982, I am wondering if it was held in 1982 only or if it was held every years, but it's just a coincidence we both have 1982 items. (Edit: I just re-read your message and saw it was held every years!) Some items seems to be available only or mostly for a specific year only, like the youth festival is Moscow in 1957 by example. This was the 6th youth festival, but we never see badges from others... they must be very rare. |

If you are into Pioneer's badges, try to get a badge from Artek (spells Артек in Russian). Now, that was THE camp for the young Pioneers.
If you can read Russian, there are lovely Wikipedia articles on both the Orleonok and Artek summer camps. Except the Artek one used to be much more significant (ask any ageing Russian :D) Sergei PS And if you don't read Russian at all, I could always produce a 'semi-good' English translation of those articles. Just ask. Last edited by Sergei; 06-29-2007 at 06:33 PM. Reason: PS added |
