document:

On the cover of the certificate "The Certificate for the Medal of the
Best Herdsman" is written at the top and at the bottom there is a picture
of the medal itself. On both sides of that picture there is a motto in
Uighur writing that says "Let's raise the number of our livestock to 200 million!"

Inside the certificate there is the certificate number, date of issue, and an acknowledgement with wording:

"This certificate is awarded along with the medal of the Best Herdsman to the herdsman for raising the livestock by over 1000 heads.
The award is issued by the Government of the Mongolian People's Republic.
Signed Prime Minister of the Mongolian People's Republic, 2 times National Hero, Marshal Kh.Choibalsan".

Jan,

The one you call Type 1 on this thread is not listed on Herfurth Catalogue, 4th edition, but on the other hand you don't mention the one Herfurth calls M 45.2 on this last edition of his Catalogue! So which Type should this one be?!

Thanks,

Dolf

Fake ?

Hello,

found this picture at a german discussion group. One member expressed his doubt about the badge. Possible a fake?

What do you think?

regards
Andreas

Andreas,

I see no reason why it should be a fake!
The obverse is just as it should be, the obverse has some wear but nothing really much...
Furthermore, as far as I know there are (not yet! I cross my fingers... :) ) no fakes detected on Mongolian Awards, so why to fake a Badge that is not even that expensive?
It seems there are two Variations of this very same Badge, one being in silver, the other I'm not sure which metal is used, probably brass, this one looks like the one not in silver.
Anyway, let's wait for what our Mongolian Awards expert, Jan, has to say about that, but honestely it seems ok to me.
Just my two cents...

Dolf

Hi Andreas,
I don't think it is a fake either, since these are are fairly common badges.
There are 2 subvariations though, 1 in silver and 1 in silverplated bronze or something. The quality of this 2nd variation is fairly poor compared to the silver one. I guess the badge in the pic is of the 2nd category.

What were the arguments of the guy in this forum to say he thought it might be a fake?

Could you PM me the address of this forum ? (I read a little German)

Distinguished herdsman

Dolf and Jan, thanks for the answer.

What were the arguments of the guy in this forum to say he thought it might be a fake?

He gave no arguments. Maybe he didn´t know that there was a "cheap" brass variant of the badge. And maybe he compared the price in Herfurth´s book with the price of the badge, for which it was sold on e-b.. .

regards
Andreas

Herfurth's prices are a bit high, for Mongolian orders/medals, compared to the real market prices. For ex: he estimates the price for a Combat service medal at 90 Euros, where on E it sells for no more tha 30 US, a type 2 Polar star order: 260 Euro in Herfurth for about 130 US you can have a very nice piece on E.
