Badge "Honoured Helper Of The Border Service".

Czechoslovakian Border Guard helper badge. Badge has reverse pin attachment and series of "X"s for a finish. It also sports a trademark or mintmakr of "MK" in a circle.

I don't pretend to speak Czech, but dabbling in several Slavic languages I have good reason to believe it to read "Honest Helper of the Border Service."

All I'm getting to is that. But... I'm wobbling between "Honest" and "Honorary".

POHRANIČNÍ STRAŽE = Border Guard.

POMOCNÍK = Help, Assistant, Servant etc.

ČESTNÝ = (According to the dictionary) Honest, Honourable, Honorary.

It's a little bit difficult to "properly define" it, since much of it doesn't contain a specific word, but one you could translate into tens of others...

But your translation would mean the same, so it's good I guess?

Hope it helped. :D

Paul,

I don't speak Czech either, but "Honored" instead of "Honest" would sound more appropriate, IMHO.

Re: Border Guard Helper

So would this be a badge received for ratting out your neighbor to the authorities? ;)

Re: Badge "Honoured Helper Of The Border Service".

The "ratting out" part seems like a pretty wide net, but I assume helping patrol the border or report on attempted violations were in the awarding criteria. These activities described here occur even in liberal Western democracies...

Re: Badge "Honoured Helper Of The Border Service".

I was being facetious :D

The "MK" mark would be the Mincovna Kremnica located in slovakia.
