Italian Auction - 'Brezhnev'

The other uniform I have gotten questions on is the set of three uniforms for 'Brezhnev'...

We cant say much about the parade uniform, its simply a parade Marshals uniform.

The other two at least have ribbons to start with...these being 100% accurate still not meaning the uniform was his. However, its a place to start. I'll just deal with the gray holiday uniform in this thread.

First, on the tunic (and on the service tunic) the HSU copies are individual, not a 4 set bar...I can not find a photo of Brezhnev NOT using using a 4 place bar...this would concern me.

We have photos of Brezhnev in this gray uniform, seemed to be his favorite. I do not feel that the one in the auction is a very good match for the one he is wearing.

I am not well versed in non-Soviet ribbons, but I am sure someone can identify some of the ones that are missing...simply does not add up to me.

Re: Italian Auction - 'Brezhnev'

Lets compare the ribbons from the Auction tunic to the actual ribbons Brezhnev is wearing...the Auction tunic seems to be "later" , so why are ribbons being worn by Brezhnev in the photo of him standing then missing int he photo of the auction ribbons?

Amongst others, these ribbons with these large 'stars' on them seem to have vanished! I am sure someone can ID them, but why would they not be on the Auction ribbon set?

Re: Italian Auction - 'Brezhnev'

I think the uniform is something made for a museum to have on display. The stars are from metal and most likely much harder to obtain than the ribbon itself, thus missing (I believe the ribbon with the star-like metal thing is the Hungarian award "Order of the Flag", at least one of them, probably both). I would say that the HSU stars are the most obvious sign that this is a produced uniform, I can't recall any photo with separate stars being worn.

It seems he wore the order of Victory on his gray sets as well (both as ribbon and award!) ... is there a such hole on this one?

I can also notice, that the medal "Victory over Germany, labor front" is missing in the auctioned uniform ribbon bar.

Hi Doug,

Those ribbons 'are' in the uniform. They are Hungarian orders; the first one is for National Flag Order. The thing is that the miniatures worn on their ribbons are not on the ribbon bar copy of it.

BTW, the oakleaves that should go on the ribbons for the DDR Karl Marx Orders are also missing in it. Take a look at the last ribbon at the 6th row and the following two of the 7th.

Hi Esteban; I am not sure what you mean about the ribbons 'are' in the uniform?

There are two ribbons on 3rd row from bottom that has the same Hungarian flag colours, but are narrower than the National flag ribbon.

Hi Doug, I´ll explain it.
I meant they 'are' because there is an attempt to recreate both ribbons, but they did not have the miniature the original ones have, nor the appropriate size. It´s a poor imitation in a uniform that is incorrectly attributed to Brezhnev.

I should have added the word just as it is.:(

Re: Italian Auction - 'Brezhnev'

Thanks Doug. I just lost that metaphore feeling I had when I was a kid. :)
