Serial number Soviet daggers

Hi, I have 2 Sovjet Marine/ Naval parade daggers, both 1989 marked
Daggers have serial number: 227909 and 227857
Does anyone know from who worn them?? Greetings Kabier

The daggers, to my knowledge were handed out by the Soviet armouries to officers for ceremonial purposes and supposedly they were given back afterwards as they were technically property of the state and all...
At least I think thats how it worked or works.

I'd wait for a more...knowledgeable answer from a member with more brains. ;)

Welcome to the forum.

Daggers had serial numbers, like orders, but unlike orders, they can not be traced to the original owner.

I have a former Soviet army officer working for me, and this is how he explained it: up until some time in the early 80's, officers received the dagger as part of their commissioning. Later, the practice stopped except for naval officers. In his case, he was a junior Army officer in the late 80's and was not going to receive one, so he purchased his and still has it.

I have a dagger with the "attestat" doc that lists who it was issued to in 1959 to a reserve major in the Samarkand city VK. I'm sure Doug is right that you can't research them, but you might be lucky to pick one up where the family kept the paperwork.

I never did really understand how that worked. My boss in Moscow gave me his for one of my birthdays (and we used it to open lots of "champansky") but his is marked 1991 and still has the star on the pommel. The blade is beautifully engraved and I don't think he reached the naval equivalent level of army major because he was an NCO, so I guess he bought it. To tell you the truth, I never thought about it before.

A correction to the above post. I pulled the dagger out of the closet and it is dated 1993 on the blade with "БУЛАМ" or BULAT depending on how you read the script. The serial number is a 6-digit one: 259877. There is no H&S anywhere, but the star is still prominent on the pommel.
