Decorations Of Nicolae Ceaușescu
I open this thread for help in determining the awards he has Nicolae Ceausescu in the next photo:
nicolaeceausescuge.jpg The photo was taken on May 1, 1953 and Ceausescu carries his general's uniform. I determined this (from left to right): - ¿? - Order of the Defense of Motherland - Order of the Star of the Romanian People's Republic - Medal of Military Merit - Conmemorative Medal 5 Anniversary of the Romanian People's Republic. Thanks you very much. |

Re: Decorations of Ceausescu
The first order looks like an Order of Labour but I can`t determine wich class it is.
He was also awarded: -3 times Hero of the RSR. -Hero of the Socialist Labour of the RSR. -Order of Victory of Socialism (RSR). -Order of Lenin (USSR). -Order of Karl Marx (GDR). -Order of Merit (West Germany). -Order of the Elephant (Denmark). -Order of the Bath (England). -Order of St. Olav (Norway) -Legion of Honour (France) -Order of knighthood (Italy) -Order of the Southern Cross (Brazil) That`s all I can remember, sorry if I forgot any:thumbsup

Re: Decorations of Ceausescu
The Bath Order (UK) was retracted in the late '80's when things began "going south" for the regime.

Re: Decorations of Ceausescu
It does not seem to be in the London Gazette, so it must have been done quietly. Most honorary awards in that period wouldn't have been gazetted, but revocations often were.

Re: Decorations of Ceausescu
Thanks for your responses.
I know the awards received by foreign states, in the Spanish Wikipedia I made a list: - Legion of Honour - Order of Merit of the Italian Republic - Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany - Order of José Marti (Cuba) - Order of the Liberator General San Martin (Argentina) - Gold Medal of Athens - XX Anniversary of the Assault on Cuartel Moncada (Cuba) - "Stara Planina" (Bulgaria) - Olympic Order (International Olympic Committee) - Karl Marx Order Revoked decorations: Order of Lenin, Order of the October Revolution, Order of the Elephant, Order of the Bath, Order of St. Olav. What I needed to determine were wearing in this picture, all Romanian granted prior to being famous. |

Re: Decorations of Ceausescu
As for the retraction of his Order Of The Bath, the revoking occurred only hours before his death (24th December - up against the wall 25th December). This was seen as a political blunder in the United Kingdom. In which the government was too slow in reacting to the situation in Romania.
Nicolae Ceaușescu state visit to Buckingham palace (13th - 16th June 1978) was at the behest of James Callaghan's Labour government and there is some confusion as to just when he received the Order (Although a newspaper of the 17th states he received it on the 16th "but when will he ever wear it?"). This picture from June 1978 certainly confirms he was awarded with the Order Of The Bath. I wonder where it is now.......
