Fake Submariner Badges
Hello everybody,
a friend of mine has brought along this nice submarine badge. I`d like to know, if it is a real badge for crew members of the (I think) Oscar II - class submarine "Orel", or if it`s just one of these cheap tourist souvenir things. Thanks a lot for your assistance. Jens* |

Re: Unknown Submarine Badge
Well, if it´s a "tourist pin" It´s a very well manufactured one.
Usually, those tourist pins are poor in materials (paint and aluminium, sometimes brass) and detail. This one looks pretty nice, with real enamel(at least looks like it), multi-piece construction and good level. It makes a good overall impression; I love the water effect! :)

Re: Unknown Submarine Badge
Without being able to tell any further on the whereabouts of this particular badge, there are a LOT of similar submarine badges with separate nameplate available in the baltic states.

Re: Unknown Submarine Badge
I have a sililar one for the 'KURSK'. I paid about $15 if I remember correctly. Cheap, light weight materials. Non authentic and made for tourists. It looks attractive but cheaply made. My 4 year old broke a piece of the front off with not to much effort;)
But it is nice and shiny for a play thing:D Brendan

Re: Unknown Submarine Badge
Hi,
for it`s size it is quite heavy, the enamel is hot baked and the pieces are put together very carefully; so nothing concerning the material and craftmanship tells me that it might be a fake... Has anyone some sort of proof, if it is a fake or the real deal ? Thank you guys, Jens* Last edited by Shocktrooper; 07-02-2008 at 10:52 AM. |

Re: Submarine Badge
Bubniy, are the ones you are showing original or fake?

Re: Submarine Badge
I see, Merci.
It would be useful to compare an original to a fake in details so me and other unexperienced collectors could know what to buy. I guess the badges Bubniy shows should have hot enamel isntead of cold. Am I right?
