Olympic Medal
Guy, what do you think? It is on eBay.
The description: For sale is the silver medal won by Cuban boxer Adolfo Horta in Moscow during the 1980 Olympics. Horta follows in the proud tradition of Cuban boxers and is the only boxer to win World Titles in three different weight catagories (Bantamweight, 1978; Featherweight, 1982; and Lightweight, 1986). However, he was was upset by East Germany's Rudi Fink in Moscow and had to settle for the silver medal as a Featherweight. Unfortunately, even though he would have been favored to win the gold medal as a Lightweight, due to the Soviet boycott, he did not compete in the 1984, Los angeles Olympic Games. Horta was born on March 10, 1957, in Camaguey, Cuba. This medal is fully guaranteed for LIFE to be as described. The medal comes with a letter of provenance. The medal has been unpolished. Eric |

Were the 1980 Olympics medals made by the MONETNYI DVOR or by another mint in Russia like Leningrad?

The IOC is not in the minting business ;) Each host country is responsible to provide the necessary precious metal and to mint the winner's as well as the participant's and the volunteer's medals according to IOC standards. Moscow 80 medals were struck at the Soviet mint; I personally do not know for sure if it was in Moscow or in Leningrad, although I tend to lean for the first. Marc |
