I've done a research on the Russian Internet, and could not find anything specific about this medal. Since it is not listed on the website of the Russian Awards Committee I am assuming that it is not an official State award. It could be a commemorative badge, issued by the MoD, or something else.

Acording to the book "Space exploration awards" (See http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...ighlight=space), the Kozhedub medal was instituted on November 10, 1993, and there are 800 medals. The manufacturer is Pobeda plant, Moscow. There is also a picture of the certificate for this medal, stamped by the federation of cosmonautics of the Russian federation.

Thanks for the information. So I guess this would make this medal a badge, as opposed to an official State medal. Since it is being manufactured by the Pobeda plant and not the mint, I am sure we'll see a lot of them for sale soon.
