Badge "50 Years Of Engineer-Aviation Service".
This badge came mounted on a 1970-ties avia parade uniform. Seems to be the 50th anniversary of something related to aviation and technics, but what more specifically?

I don't know, but I believe IAS could be istrebitelnoe aviatsionnoe soedinenie or fighter aviation unit.

Could it be
ИАС — инженерно-авиационная служба? Here is alink to an article, it's long and in Russian but it seems that IAS as such appeared around 1942-43. The badge itself seems to be made in the seventies, it is light and made from aluminum. Screwback, but the plate has been replaced. No mint marks.
Having read the article linked by Sergei, it seems that IAS is the Engineering-Aviation service of the airforce, formed in prewar time but re-organized and re-structured in 1941-1943. Last edited by Tretov; 01-11-2007 at 08:49 PM. |

I would go with Sergei's "service". I was uncomfortable with it when I wrote "unit", but it was the only thing I could think of at the time.
