Gdansk Trade Unionist Marian Smolinski
hello gents, here's a group whose gathering has been a special history - or "does luck or guardian angels really exist for medals collectors".
I bought this group four years ago on the polish concurrent of ebay. Small, correct group, and curiously with a stamp belonging to the former owner, a small photo an a little ID card. The photo seemed to be original, with intact staples to stick it on the cardboard. Good catch, at a very fair price. Time passed... Last month, while lazily browsing the same polish ebay, I saw... "legitymacja PZPR". Clicking on the auction, a buy-it-now one, I saw first a portrait which tilted in my memory. What a surprise! A nice Socialist youth ID card belonging to the same man. Looking at the seller, I then recognized his ID: the same seller. He certainly had recovered some split parts of the group in the bottom of his shelf. Call that like you want, sometimes we can consider luck is with the medal collector. Then I wrote to our fellow colleague al-Muel, who kindly accepted to make the transaction (as the seller didn't want to sell abroad). The seller added some secondary docs to the ID card, and al-Muel shipped to me the docs, with few explanations and translations from this nice and complex language. some ID cards and the stamp... indicating his task as a Head of the company council at the board of the Internal Commerce Transportation Company, at Gdansk. and the famous ID card, stating he was an honorary member of the Union of the Polish Socialist Youth ... I've been lucky twice: for discovering by a pure chance this doc, for having been able to rely on Kamil's (Al-Muell) extreme courtesy and total curiosity for the history of the group. Collectors do progress in knowledge, experience - and collecting! - thanks to the collector community. thanks!

Re: Gdansk Trade Union - Marian Smolinsky
I may add that according to the seller, this man was awarded the gold "For merits to the Polo-Soviet Friendship Society" badge - no proof other than his words, but that was a rare honour.
Always glad to help with re-uniting award groups. |
