Thanks for the info Danny.

For my learning, what is the difference between the 1950 and 1966 types for pilots and navigators?

I believe that 1950-type have the smaller blue shield not touching the red star and with a straight top, while the 1966 has the blue shield going higher until the red star and following star contours.

Also, it seems that 1966 are pinback while 1950 are screwback. Is that right?

In that case, my second picture (pilot) is screwback and the blue-shield doesn't touch the star. That's why I assumed it was 1950-type.

(My belief/information are based on what I have observed looking at the pitures on a seller website)

Matt

I had actually missed the screw under your image hence that's why I had wrote "could be". Be being a screwback, then it should be a 1950's as the pinback is the 1966 variation. Appologies for the confusion.

crossed swords are for pilots

Navigators and bombadiers have bombs, flight engineers have hammer & wrenches or pistons depending upon the era. This style dates from 40's into 50's.
I don't know that ground crew get any sort of wings until possibly some of the excellence awards which have wing-like backgrounds starting in the 60's. But they don't look anything like these

I don't have my references handy, though I believe these were pre-"Sniper Pilot" insignia issue.

By the looks of it, it is either an unrated 50's pilot wing, or the '49 pilots-wing. The '49 has a wingspan of about 10cm / 4", while as the later unrated 50's is about 1" smaller. Flight-rated engineers had silver colored wings.

Here are mine:
