Here's an interesting lot of documents that I picked up from a retired NSA agent here in town... These are the teaching texts from the US Army's "Detachment R", which was located up in the mountains of Germany. These were written as the 'debriefs' of several high-ranking Soviet defectors, who later taught the same material to the students.
The instructors included the former chief procurator during the Purge under Stalin (he escaped during the War) another was the KGB aide to Stalin (he left the night Stalin died) and another was an early assistant to Beria, who defected during WW2. (An interesting story from this fellow is that the KGB aide to Stalin was the mastermind of the 'extermination' of the Chechyans. The former assistant to Beria WAS a Chechyan, and defected to save his life! Apparently, there was a protocol officer permanently assigned at the camp to keep the two men separated!) The titles include the following: -Service in the Soviet Armed Forces (Military Justice) -The Communist Party -Operations and Tactics of the Soviet Army -Communist Doctrine and Ideology -History of the Eastern Front in World War II -History of the Eastern Front in World War II (part 2) -Soviet Law and Government -USSR in International Relations -Soviet Security Forces and Intelligence Organs -Soviet Military Doctrine and Strategy -Military Techniques of the Military of the USSR -Soviet Law and Government (Part 2) -Political officers in the military Service of the USSR -Organs of State Security -Service in the Soviet Armed Forces I actually contemplated (for about 1/1000th of a second) scanning these and posting them up, but there was just too much! (The entire stack is about 18" tall!) What's also nice is that I was able to get some very detailed maps of the USSR that were also used at "Detachment R". They had all the important railroad, transportation and natural resource areas marked on them. I wonder what those were for??? ;) It's too bad that my Russian isn't better- all of them are in Cyrillic! Enjoy! --Dave Forgot to add.. All of them date from 1962 through 1964, the span of time he was at the Detachment. Last edited by CtahhR; 02-20-2014 at 06:16 PM. |
