Militia Helmet?

At least, I <i>think</i> this is a very early militia helmet, but maybe it's a police helmet. Can anyone straighten me out here on the what and when?

VERY COOL! This is the first time I have ever seen one "for real". It looks to be a M31 cap for the Militia=Police. I cannot place the cap star but it looks a bit later. Also the M31 should have a cloth star behind the metal one.

Is it yours? Any chance for a look inside... :cool:
