Hi Rusty
The OGPW1 223155 is the only award being sold. That is why I doubted it |

I would pass on the doc. Buy just the OGPW.

Could someone advise whether this is a geniune document. It came with the Red Banner and GPW IIclass. I find the handwritten last page (the inside of the hard cover) very confusing. The text goes:
44-09-02, {something crossed out but may contain a name, not the unit number as thought initially}, medal No 1008500, lest they spilled their blood in vain, for Georgia and for the president who will be for the people. They did not spill their blood in vain. {Signature}. What's all this about? What medal? What president? The word 'Georgia' is spelt with a deliberate Georgian accent! (Gruzia instead of Gruziya) A crude joke? (would also be grateful if someone could do a better translation). Thanks. Sergei. Last edited by Sergei; 08-06-2006 at 02:44 PM. Reason: got a better look on the crossed-out text |

Sergei, I think this orderbook is OK. I don't see any problems or suspicious details.

Sergei,
That hand written addition is certainly not an official entry. They are talking about spilling blood for Georgia and the President, so I am assuming it's at least post-1991, probably even later, because of the mentioning of a medal # 100850. For a new post-Soviet award the number is pretty high, especially for a small country. Curious!!:weird Alexei |

Sergei, probably it would be very difficult to restore original message written on the back of the book. Initial part is missing. Alexei is right, this entry was made not long ago, I would say after 1991 Soviet Union collapse. By some reason people often used their orderbooks to write down different information - addresses, phone numbers and other things. Once I even saw a written explanation of some playing cards trick.
On the very top is a phone number written with a pencil. I would say this entry is much older than ink-written message. The ink message says "... medal number 1008500, so they did not spill their blood for nothing, but for Georgia and for president who would serve to the people. They did not spill this blood for nothing". It might be about some bloody events that had happened in Georgia in the initial period of its independence. There was a number of local conflicts between some minority nations in Caucasian region in 1990-2000. Another possibility is that the author of this message was suffering from Alzheimer disease or some other mental dysfunction. It happened with older people. What is strange, is that cavalier had Armenian name, but was writing about Georgians... |

I suppose I would try to find what Georgian medals have serial numbers, just to narrow it down a bit... Alexei |

I agree with everyone that there is something odd about that hand-written note and I am leaning towards the Alzheimer version or something similar. As for the Armenian name, here's one interesting fact: The Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian. Born June 6, 1903, in Georgia.
Checking the members of the Parliament of Georgia, there are two or three people with Armenian sounding surnames. So it may be a bit complicated. Could not find anything on the modern awards of Georgia with numbers but will need to try harder. Sergei. |
