Made of Brass with Blue and Red lacquer.

Also often called the "Afghan KGB Medal"

The inscription under the state emblem is "WAD", abbreviation for Ministry of State Security. The earlier acronym of this organization was KhAD, for Khadamat-e Ettel'at-e Dawlati or "State Information Services".

This medal has a very unusual suspension ring that make me question its authenticity.

There are many bizarre things about this medal. Not sure I'd scream "fake", but . . . .

I was showing it mainly to show the ribbon.

When I find it, I'll post my mis-ribboned specimen. (Now . . . which box was it in???)
