Generalissimus USSR Shoulder Boards
I'm not shure if this would be appropriate for this forum or not, but does anyone know what the Generalissimus of the Soviet Union rank shoulder board looked like, or have any pictures?

Frieza,
I looked through several of my uniform books, and couldn't find anything made specifically for the rank of Generalissimus. For those that may not know, the rank of Generalissimus was awarded only during wartime for outstanding service in the leadership of all the armed forces..Stalin was the only man who held this rank, it was given to him in 1945. I've never seen him with anything other than these, but he probably could have worn anything he wanted and no one would have mentioned a thing. Art

Rank of Generalissimos came to Russia in the end of XVII century from Western Europe: Germany, France, and Austria. It was a few people in Russia who had this rank. The most known were prince Menshikov, favorite of Peter the Great, and Alexander Suvorov.
This rank was created in Soviet Union specially for Stalin in June of 1945. It's more honorary title than military rank. There were not special attributes to this rank like uniform or epaulettes. |

Dear Tal,
didn't Comrade Stalin always have big white/silver stars on his epaulettes and not gold ones? Regards from Vienna |

Perhaps it's the way the light is hitting the material. I believe the stars are actually gold bullion wire wrapped around some sort of support shape. In black and white they would appear to be lighter as the reflect light?
