Researching deputy badges?
Does anyone know if it is possible to do research on Highest Soviet deputy badges? For example, if I have XII-31 from Estonian SSR, can I found out who held this badge?

Re: Researching deputy badges?
I have the lists for 1st, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th, if you have any of these Soviet Estonian badges, let me know, I can give you the name, photo, and a bio from the badge number.
Otherwise, you have to go to the state archive or national library to find out. It is my opinion - and perhaps someone disagrees - that these 12th Estonian Supreme Soviet badges were never issued - the Supreme Soviet of the Estonian SSR convened on March 23, 1990, was renamed the Supreme Soviet of the Estonian Republic on May 8, 1990, and the state flag was changed August 7, 1990. The 11th Supreme Soviet had 285 members hand picked by the party, and the 12th had 105 elected in a relatively free election. The mood of the country was decidedly anti-soviet and these badges would not have been used for long. I have never seen a document for the 12th Supreme Soviet, and I have seen them for each of the first 11, and I have come to the conclusion that documents for 12th Supreme Soviet of ESSR do not exist and badges were never issued. Also, there were only 105 members, and I must have seen 20-30 of these (probably many fake) and never the document. If you poke around, you will find pictures of 4 or 5 more posted in this forum. If anyone has any evidence to the contrary, I would love to see it. Keith |

Re: Researching deputy badges?
Thank You for this information :) 12th convocation badges are widely available in Tallinn and I recently picked one up at a very fair price, thus my interest in finding out who was the owner.

Re: Researching deputy badges?
That is exactly why I am suspicious, 12th convocation had 105 members and badges are widely available, but never with document, while 11th convocation had 285 members, badges are difficult to find and usually come with document.
I suspect that the badge making factory had the original dies and made lots of duplicates to help recapitalize when the factory was privatized after the fall of communism. I wrote them many years ago to ask if they still had the dies and if they would make me more badges, and I got a very angry response. Keith |
