Re: Profiency badge
That would be interesting to see. Do you have any examples left to show?

Re: Profiency badge
I made them by hand using tin from toothpaste tubes. They were filed with epoxy and screw was attached. Enamel was made using epoxy glue as well and red and blue ink from ball pens. I made qualification badges as well. Most difficult was to make blue enamel. The brass badges were already rare and on top old soldiers (деды) who were prep for dembel took all out newly given Guardia badges. I made a lot of these for new and old soldiers as well. They were wearing those and kept manufactured for parade uniforms.

Re: Profiency badge
Дембель / “dembel” is a soldier who served his term of 2 years in Army (3 years in Navy) and demobilized. On your pictures is a manufactured brass badge with handmade back plate. When attached to the uniform it adds some type of canvas. Different back plates made from aluminum, red fabric or plastic – whatever is available. Very often badges were altered to give uniqueness. Regulations prohibited such alternations. Many officers did not want to deal with “dembels”, because the altered uniforms were changed right after soldier left the premises.
Dembel is a terror force – it is difficult to fight a person who did not see relatives/girls/normal people for 2+ years. LOL |
