General of Army Boards-Real?
Here is a set of boards I picked up at a local auction last week. Would like to know if people think they are original pre 1989. I can't find them on eBay, so maybe that's a good sign! Thanks!

Re: General of Army Boards-Real?
Hi Bob,
Welcome to the forum. Those General of the Army boards are nice. Problem with late-Soviet insignia is that they were produced into the 1990's as well, with no real changes. I think they are real, but could be 1990, 1991, etc. I am sure Tretov will have an opinion as he deals with many high ranking post-war uniforms. DougD |

Re: General of Army Boards-Real?
Seems like unissued shoulderboards for a raincoat or some kind of field gear. Can you post a photo of the backside? If there is an attachment strap, check it for any stamps or numbers :)

Re: General of Army Boards-Real?
Thanks for the replys DougD & Tretov! You can slip a finger under the material on each end. No stamps or numbers are visible. They are 5 3/4 X 2 3/8" I assumed they were for a field jacket/shirt etc. I know the parade dress boards a widely reproduced, but don't know about normal dress & field examples.

Bob,
I tend to believe that these are Russian, not Soviet. Marc |

Re: General of Army Boards-Real?
Thanks again for the response guys! Marc & Tretov are you saying you think they're Russian because of the lack of stamps or the construction of the back. I've looked at every reference I have & Googled a few more & I haven't been able to find anything exactly like it. Didn't the Russian federation only use this type for two or three years?

Re: General of Army Boards-Real?
Bob,
This style was used from 1985 until 1994, so saying "Soviet" or " Russian" is difficult. Either way, they are nice boards and you should enjoy them! DougD |

Re: General of Army Boards-Real?
I am enjoying them, just trying to figure out what I've got. Appears they are an unusual type. Thanks!

Re: General of Army Boards-Real?
Those RF army general shoulderboards you have are very nice, Bob.
Is there a kind of cardboard piece under the embroidery of the big stars that make it look shaded? BTW, here are mine. I still don´t know on which kind of uniform were they worn. Hope I can get a reply now since the topic revived. :) http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...rds-black.html
