looking for a soviet/cossack sabre
Hi dear collectors,
I would like to purchase a soviet/cossack sabre, and I have seen some examples on E! recently. However, I have zero knowledge in the area of blades and I don't want to buy a fake item or realize later that I really got played on the price. Anybody can recommend a reputable seller. I wish DougD had some for sell directly! Thanks in advance for your comments/recommendations :thumbsup |

Re: looking for a soviet/cossack sabre
Hi Matteti, i am new here, i collect russian schaschka and have several one, i can say that there is no seriously seller of russian schaschka on Ebay.
A lot of chinese replika, a lot of german replika(dont buy a 1934 one, it`s 90% sure that it`s a replika) and the one sell by georgian are too expensive and in poor condition. If you want to buy one, first collect a lot of information about stamps, type of head, type of blade, etc... after this you will be able to recognize replika and true one. |

Thanks for your comments pirochki. Actually, I already located and committed to buy one from a very kind and reputed expert member of this forum. I just have to pay for it now. :) It is a 1937 NKVD shashka with matching scabbard in very good shape. As soon as I receive it, I will post picture of it.
other side of the blade "15 KG" and markings on scabbard... Last edited by CtahhR; 09-08-2012 at 05:10 AM. |

Ooo....nice!!!! That is so cool, I wish I could get one.
Can I ask what the price range for these might be? Just a ballpark....

Re: looking for a soviet/cossack sabre
Hello,
I'm far from an expert, but I can share some information I learned. Price depends a lot on the condition and the type. There are two types, one for NKVD cavalry officer and one for regular Soviet army officer. The fist one (like mine) is more silverish in color and the later one is more golden. The NKVD type is rarer, thus more expensive. I don't know by how much though. I've seen some NKVD shahskas in the $1300-2000 range depending on condition. |

What a beauty! Definately now on my "want for Xmas" list.
Still regretting not having bought one of these with a Mongolian Khalkhin Gol badge impressed in it when offered to me a few years ago...:thumbsdown |
