Next, the Karhatalom (Államvédelmi Hatóság or AVH- Hungarian Secret Police members functioning as police) version of the same medal, Gold grade. Same period as the Border Guard medal; same type of case. The reason I keep mentioning the "sameness" of the medals is that, right now, on our favorite auction site, you can find a Gold grade Police version of this medal for around $20-$30 USD along side this medal, which is going for $130!!! Don't be fooled- it's the same medal with a different ribbon. It always was.

I have one more medal in this vein to show- it's in transit and it is somewhat special. After it arrives, I'll end my search for medals of this type and move on to concentrating on the associated badges.

A couple more AVH Service Medals; a Silver and Bronze grade to go with the Gold I already have. Note that, on the Bronze grade, a Gold star has been used. This is not the first time I've seen this. There's a similar instance in Charles' book (a Police medal). Don't have an explanation.
