The only recent cavalry formation I know of was an independant cavalry formation of (I think) brigade strength, though I stand to be corrected) which was employed on cerominal duties only. They were known as "The Film stars" as theiry were employed on many Soviet films as extras.
Whether the formation would have a general in charge is highly doubtful. I would guess that it would be led by a Colonel or Lieut-Colonel and no higher.

We are probably talking about the same unit.
I said it was a representative division including a cavalry regiment (maybe a brigade? don't know for sure). The division itself wasn't a cavalry unit. At least that is what I've heard. What I had in mind - it was possible for an officer from that regiment to become a general (ok, not neccessarily of that division but in general). I don't think he would wear one of those caps (wrong piping) but hat about the rest of the uniform? |

Re: "KGB" Generals Uniforms (new thread!)
In an email written to me in response to my question to him on the subject, Oleg Kalugin confirmed that, as a KGB General, he wore the uniform of an army General officer "on special occasions."
