Re: Jerzy Długoszowski

And here's a really interesting piece of the story.
When I first commited to buy this group, the seller warned me, that this guy had nothing to do with THE DŁUGOSZOWSKI (for info: Bolesław Wieniawa-Długoszowski - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
I believed, as even tough the surname is rare, it seems ulikely to me that MO officer would turn out to be a relative of marshal Piłsudski's closest friend (tough even stranger things happened in Poland). Even tough the man apparently caimed to be Wieniawa-Długoszowski's nephew, the seller said he was crazy (using much worse words), and much of his stuff seemed to confirm that he was indeed a bit weird.
However, shortly after purchesing next part of documents I came across this award booklet on a Polish auction site. It wouldn't prove anything if not for the fact, that below Jabłoński's stamp, his name was written - unmistakebly by Jerzy Długoszowski. After contacting the guy who was selling that he said, that he was offered a few booklets to "brothers": posthumous Warsaw Uprising Crosses to Andrzej and Marek Długoszowski, Partisan Cross to Jerzy Długoszowski and some others, but he bought only one of them.
After purhasing this booklet, I have found another proof of the fact that it passed through Jerzy Długoszowski's hands - at the and of the booklet there was the area data - it helped the officials to send the award and booklet to the proper area. It gives the postal code, and "Bielawa Wałbrzych" (Bielawa is the town where Jerzy Długoszowski Lived and it was in the Voivodeship of Wałbrzych at that time).

The story of the recipent in the next Post.

Re: Jerzy Długoszowski

gen. Bolesław Długoszowski had one famous cousin (according to other sources he was a brother) - Jerzy. He was an air force officer and a participant of the Polish-Soviet War. He died in a plane crash in 1931. He had two sons: Andrzej and Marek. Before the war they both joined the ZHP and during the war - the Szare Szeregi (both held ranks of lt.). They both died in the Warsaw Uprising.

The document posted before (to Andrzej Długoszewski) is a posthumus Warsaw Uprising Cross booklet. Such booklets togeather with the awards were sent to the closest living relative, whose whereabouts were known. Apparently in 1984 when this award was bestowed upon Andrzej Długoszowski the authorities considered Jerzy Długoszowski the closest living relative of Andrzej Długoszowski. This means that Jerzy Długoszowski's father - Stefan was either a cousin or a brother of Jerzy Długoszowski (The air force officer), which means that the hero of this thread was indeed general Bolesław Długoszowski's relative.

On the pic: symbolic grave of Andrzej anjd Marek Długoszowscy on Powązki Cementary, Warsaw.

Re: Jerzy Długoszowski

His ribbon bar (most likely the most complete list of his awards):
Awards on his ribbon bar (the one in my possesion, that is):
1st row: Wound badge (2 wounds).
2nd row:Polonia... Cavalier's cross, Gold Cross of Merit
3rd row:Partisan Cross, Something that seems to be "To the participants of historical operation 1978-1980" (no idea what that is, it came in 3 classes, other possibility is Greater Poland Upprising cross, but that's impossible)
4th row: Something that seems to be "To the participants of historical operation 1978-1980", Victory and freedom medal, For merits to the State Defense 2nd class
5th row: For merits to the State Defense 3rd class, In service to Nation, 1971 variant class unknown, In service to nation 1974 variant 2nd class
6th row: In service to nation 1974 variant class unknown, Cross of merit to ZHP, Polish red cross medal 1st class
7th row: Polish red cross medal 2nd class, Polish red cross medal 3rd class, For merits to LOK (Liga Ochrony Kraju, something close to soviet DOSAAF) 1st class
8th row:For merits to LOK 2nd class, for merits to LOK 3rd class, For merits to ORMO.

He was also awarded "Meritous to the health of the nation" honorary title, Blood Donor Badges, Millenium Badge, but those were sold with his uniforms.

On one of the photographs he seems to be wearing a Virtuti Militari Ribbon - it is a mystery. Obviously hy was never awarded VM by any of the Official Polish Governments. It is possible that it was another post-humous award to one of his relatives, but I have no info on that.

It's hard to find anything on the man. His ZBOWiD file is missing. His MO file is inaccessable plus I have seen it in the seller's possesion (:eek:sic!) tough was denied the purchese (so it's most likely missing to).
