Army Dagger
Hello Shawn
Thank you so much, for that info. I had given up on trying to find out who the General was. What kind of value you think this dagger is worth, with the history that comes with it?? I paid $150.

Rboomsma, (or is there a better name to address you with?)
In my opinion it is very hard to put a price on this sort of thing. It should be easy to price a blank 1950s dagger as there are may on the market. But what does the name add?? That probably depends on what sort of history can go along with it. I did the name search on a fairly accessible Russian language resource and got lucky - one name, likely in terms of date and rank. But you have the giver. I could find no name similar to the recipeint in any list of senior officers. I am guessing it is a subordinate of his. Such a person (a senior officer in 1957) likely was a junior officer in the war and thus there is no record of them. Once you get to names and personal data you really get into personal opinions. Some people value any history - I do. Others value mainly the results - i.e. it may tell them if the person served in an area they are interested - a branch like tank or airborne, a certain battle, etc. For example, if the general was associated with one of the units with which I have a collecting "conection" (I have some other items from) then I would offer you even more than the $150 to get the dagger.
