Soviet "Dog Tag"?
I have bought this just few days ago, mnainly because of the price. It was described as "Soviet dog tag". I know that the Red Army used something similar during WW2 and I know that this is obviously postwar, but is this realy a soviet dogtag?
Costed about 4$ (pair). |

It looks similar to the bakelight version (there were also wooden versions) of the Red Army's WWII era ID tag holder. I don't know if they are still issued though.

Could possibly be WWII but the post war ones were I think stamped metal.

I've actually only seen one postwar dog tag, and that came out of the estate of a Lieutenant Colonel of the Air Force. I'll have to pull it out of his display, but it's pretty unremarkable... It is made of aluminum, has "VS SSSR" and his serial number on it. I'll post up a scan after I pull it down.

It is WWII.
At least in the Winter War 1939-40 soviet troops had this kind of ID holders. I don´t know how long after this period they have been used them. Jussi-Pekka |
