Badges "For Injury".
The Badge "For Injury" (Знак „За Раняване") was founded in 1941 and was awarded to military personnel for receiving wounds. "1" for one wound, "2" for two etc.. In case of a fatal wound the next of kin was awarded a Badge featuring a black cross. c2000 Bulgarian Military personnel were fatally injured during their period in the Axis.
Here is an early Badge for 1 wound. The quality of these badges declined as the war took its toll on the nation.

Here is one of the very late "poor" quality Badges. This Badge is somewhat crudely constructed from alloy. It was apparently made "in the field" on the road to Berlin.
The red backing is in the style of early Soviet awards and not something I have come across on Bulgarian awards before, It may have benn issued with the Badge or added later but it has been together for a long period of time. There may or may not have originally been a crown above the lion there is no real clue as to whether it was removed or the hole was just plugged. A nice piece of post 9th September 1944 Bulgarian history which was awarded to a soldier of the Bulgarian People's Army whilst combatting Fascists.
