Medal "Glory Of The Virgin Land Cultivators".
Established in 1979, the medal was awarded for merit in the development of virgin lands for agriculture in Mongolia. As Mongolia had never engaged in field agricultue to any appreciable degree, this was quite an undertaking (with envionmental costs).
Around 3500 of these medals were produced (in two batches from the Mongolian Mint, 1-2500 in 1979 and 2501-3500 in 1984). Medal #1 was awarded to Tsedenbal (and Urnukh illustrates his award document). Type 1 is the first batch and has enamel on the obverse. The serial number range is 1-2500. (Shown below.) Type 2 is the second batch and has paint in place of the enamel. The serial number range is 2501-3500. There are also unnumberd Type 2 medals and these may be mint escapees. Urnukh pp. 219-23, Battushig #52. |

And the medal in wear by Ts. Gotov (Secretary of the Presidium of the People's Great Kural, the fellow who [whose stamp] signed almost all the award booklets, and grandfather of a great friend of Mongolian phaleristics). Though there is a bad reflection off his medal (which I think is 0004).
