Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star
It is a rather crude fake. The "mess" on it will have been fake patina.
NEVER polish any silver items with "Silver polish". If you need to clean a silver item use boiling water and a towel. If the item is exceptionally bad use bicarbonate of soda too. "Polishes" are abrasives designed to turn black or whatever other colour in time so you need to keep reapplying.

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star
Orders of the Red Star were solid silver (.925, I think), and not silver plated. I concur, a very bad reproduction.

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star
Welcome to the forum. I don't see any glaring problems. In fact, normally you find these faked when they are meant to be very early Types or someone altered the serial number to match an award booklet. This is a low serial number, but probably not low enough to warrant faking it, in my opinion.

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star
I agree. It is authentic, probably awarded mid to late 1944. . .

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star
Personally I would go just a little earlier, Mid-April to early June 1944. Most likely for actions during the winter of '43-'44 but also possibly long service. A very fair 6 digit wartime example.
