kirichenko
I sold one of Kirichenko's uniforms about 18 months ago. It was his M1940 field uniform; really nice, here is a jpg. of it.

Thanks Guys,
For the quick response, does anyone have any info on particular actions in which the Corps took part in? Eddie.

Taz,
I owned the Kirichenko uniform for a while and did some research. I think it is still handwritten but I will look for it and see if I can post some. Shawn |

4th Guards C. Corps
Eddie,
Below is what someone posted in reply to your question, on another Forum where I posted your question in search for help. Thank you Craig ;) According to Erickson's 'Road to Stalingrad' (Phoenix Giant,1998 edition p380), the 4th Guards Cavalry Corps was working with the 18th Army (under Kamkov) to block German forces from reaching the Black Sea in the Kerch/Taman Peninsular (this was in mid-August). The text reads as: "Marshal Budenny, who was living out the last days of his own Front, was instructed to block the German route to the Black Sea coast by using Kamkov's 18th Army and the Kuban Cossacks of 17th Cavalry Corps (Lieutenant General Kirichenko's formation which at the end of August was promoted to Guards status as 4th Guards Cavalry Corps). Major General A.A. Grechko's 12th Army was to secure the junction between the 18th Army and Ryzhov's 56th Army..." I couldn't find any more information about the formation, but it seems likely that a search for operations around Kerch and afterwards (maybe withdrawn to the Caucasus?) would yield better results. Sorry I couldn't be of much help (I'm afraid I don't know very much about the Kerch Campaign). Hope it can help. Best, Dolf |

Road to Stalingrad
Eddie,
Funny because among others on the Eastern Front it happens that I have the book mentioned above, that's just one of those I didn't find the time to read yet. Just finished "The end of the third reich" by Marshal Cuikov, as commander of the 8th Guards Army, from the Vistula to Berlin. Very interesting account, recommended. Thanks for recommending it in the 1st place, Eddie ;) Best, Dolf |
