Eric,

The current Defense Minister is a civilian, and is only the second one to hold that post. Before, Defense Ministers always were soldiers, hence their wearing the uniform.

OK. Now it makes sence.
It is hard to believe for the person from Former Soviet Union (me) - Minister of Defence of RUSSIA is civilian

Some of the Veterans are wearing rectangular suspension medals which do not resemble the HSU, HSL, or Lenin's 100th Birthday. What are they?

Ministers of Defense always look good, in the uniform or not, but the photos of the veterans are truly breathtaking. Nice to know that some of those guys are still around. I was also glad to see that the guys managed to hold on to their war medals. I guess it was not easy for them, they do not look like a wealthy folk. Can you imagine the pressure from the dealers?
Tal, thanks for the pictures.
And getting a bit sentimental, I did have a Victory Day drink in the memory of my grandfather who is listed as missing in action. An ordinary soldier. 1942, somewhere aroung Leningrad. No further info.
