That's right, (Borisov, p. 126). I had forgotten that he was talking about the badge with the large gerb and small red star, not the later badge that follows the form of the academy badges.

Re: General Graduation Badge ID
It´s a badge for a higher military school. The German term would be: "Militärische Fachhochschule".
This was awarded between 1961 tom 1981. On the picture you can see the timeline of these badges. At first there were 21 different badges for the 21 branches / schools. But with time the 21 different badges were replaced by only one. regards from Germany Andreas |

Re: General Graduation Badge ID
Were officers supposed to keep the badge they received without replacing them by the new type or they were supposed to replace them?

Re: General Graduation Badge ID
Badges from academies named after Stalin were supposed to be replaced. I believe that replacing obsolete types was optional.

Re: Goodies! ...from Down Under part 2
Here's another item I received from fellow forumite and all around good guy Brendan E. I bought this lovely school diamond from the marketplace here. It's very nice, a real beauty and it fills a big hole in my collection. Many thanks mate!!! :thumbsup
After a quick scan of Avers8 and a journey to the Prompt translator I find it's a "higher military college" badge. :)

Re: Soviet Academy Graduation Badges
This academy badge (BATC - home front and signal military academy ) crossed my way a few days ago for little money. So I can´t resist.
best regards Andreas |

Re: Soviet Academy Graduation Badges
Thanks Phillip,
I like them also. This one was for sale on a dealer page for 30 Euro´s. So I couldn´t resist. Normally they sell for more and I also buy them if the price is low. best regards Andreas |

Would you say this is pre-1960 or Neusilber "German silver" type?
Well, I figured out on my own that the badge I posted above is a "unified" military academy grad badge from 1957-60 and made from silver. Someone probably put the wrong nut holding the three pieces together, but it is in great condition otherwise - and clearly solid silver because it weighs three times as much as any other badge I have like it.
