Phillip, the photos I put some weeks ago of Lenin's birthday V3 were of this medal, the same seller. I think it's original, but people who know nothing about this medal won't pay 1,700$... It's my ignorant opnion :thumbsup

I'm going only on the one picture I've ever seen of the foreign dignitary version of this medal. Perhaps the suspension was replaced? If anyone has any photos/scans of authentic versions of this medal, please post them since even the Mondvor site doesn't have much to say about the suspension other than it was a pin and hook. Maybe we should ask Gerald Zimmerman (check out the last medal certificate example: http://mondvor.narod.ru/MLenin100.html). :)

And no matter how much I ever know about this medal, I won't pay $1700 for it.:rolleyes:

I notice that you mentioned several times that this medal has a specific suspension. Could you please elaborate on that and/or post pictures of that suspension.

Of course Marc. I knew it would eventually come down to this. Here is the most accessible photo I have on hand and it is from the McDaniel and Schmitt The Comprehensive Guide to Soviet Orders and Medals page 244. I have to add that this is not the only place I have seen this order for foreign dignitaries with this clasp that is similar to the 50th anniversary of membership in the Communist Party pin. In various museums from Moscow to St. Petersburg I have seen the one pictured. Mondvor doesn't seem to make much about a difference, so there you are. A possible unknown again.:(

But at least now, we have a picture for reference. (Remember to cite the source of the photo if you use it elsewhere - so says the Literature instructor in me.:))

It's OK, no worry, no point to fake those. In the east they are getting sold for $ 2-5

When I first started trying to find some kind of difference (other than just the text) fro the ones given to foreign citizens, this was the only thing I noticed. I figured since the original pin clasps are rather flimsy and not very auspicious, the finger-puncturing "classy" style would at least look more impressive to foreigners.:rolleyes:
