Re: What's In The Box?
The design pre-dates the Third Reich by a good period. The design is actually based on the Imperial Bulgarian Order "For Bravery" which was founded in 1880 and that was also based on the Imperial Russian Order "Saint George" (Founded in 1769) which is why the Imperial Bulgarian Order had "Soldier's Crosses" in 4 grades emulating "Saint George Crosses". Bulgaria has had a very Russian influence on them from liberation by them in 1878 to being forced into line as a People's Republic by the post 1943 Russian revival Soviet Union and then attempts for Bulgaria to be a Republic of the Soviet Union under Zhivkov.
The reverse of this Order also has a small Order "For Bravery".

Fantastic Faleristic Competition.
Now as we all like Awards and Games here at the Soviet Military Awards Forum I am happy to present to you a Faleristic Competition.
The competition is open to ALL members of this forum with two exceptions. Myself as I conceived the competition and this would give me an obvious preparation advantage and Art, the head of this forum, who has also been pre-warned of this competition. I will be refereeing and judging the competition and conferring with Art if I need a second opinion on a result. So what is this competition? you may be asking by this point. The challenge is to find and post as many pictures of different awards which feature as part of their design a different award. There are some very common awards featuring other awards as part of their design but there are also many more obscure ones. Now the slightly more complicated part of the competition - the scoring system! You will receive 1 point for posting a picture of a non-communist award featuring an award on it. You will receive 2 points for posting a picture of a communist award featuring an award on it. You will receive 2 points for posting a picture of an award featuring an award on it (even if someone has posted the same award not in wear) You will receive 5 points for posting a picture of two awards featuring awards on them being worn at the same time (Or mounted and displayed together as part of a funeral procession). You will receive 1 point for posting the native language name (if it is not English) of an award featuring an award on it (even if someone else has posted the same award's name in English) You will receive 1 point for a picture of a non-communist document for the award. (even if someone has posted the award) You will receive 2 points for a picture of a communist document for the award. (even if someone has posted the award) You will receive 1 point for an award document featuring an award (or multiple awards), such as "Gramotas". You will receive 1 point for a picture of the original award that is reproduced on another award. You will receive 1 point for the original non-English name of the original award that is reproduced. You will receive 1 point for a non-communist award banner featuring an award or awards. You will receive 2 points for a communist award banner featuring an award or awards. You will receive 2 points for an award banner marching with the unit featuring award(s). You will receive 5 points for a pair of award banners marching with the unit featuring awards. You will receive 2 points for every additional award banner marching with the unit featuring awards. So if you post a picture of a communist award featuring another award as part of the design with a document and also a photo of a veteran wearing the award and put the original non-English name for the award you will receive 7 points. If you post a non-communist award alone that has an English language name with a picture of the original award that is reproduced you will receive 2 points. The competition will complete at midnight (Eastern Standard Time) on the last day of October. What is the prize?!?!? The prize is the person with the highest score when the thread closes will have their member status (New Member, Senior Member etc.) changed to the honorary title of "Champion Of The Faleristic Competition" so everyone will know that you really know your awards! Now the small print..... "Awards" cover all Orders, Medals and Badges issued by Governments and their Ministries/Agencies. Unofficial Russian "Committee" items and Veterans Associations Orders, Medals or Badges DO NOT count. Honorary Edged weapons with images of other awards on do count but awards featuring edged weapons do not. Marshal Batons and Stars do not count. If there is any confusion I will be the final judge as to whether or not something is "Official" or "Unofficial". "Unrecognised States" (Palestine, Abkhazia, PMR etc.) will be recognised for the sake of this competition, "Micronations" ("Sealand", "Duchy Of Bohemia", "Hutt River", etc.) will not. Photographs same awards worn by different veterans will also count. Watermarked photographs will only receive half points! Award names in uncommon scripts can be posted as images (jpgs or whatever is allowed by the forum). All answers must be posted within this thread. All points are "first come first serve" the first person to post gets the point. and remember this is all in the name of FUN! So you all have time to prepare for this competition I will be closing this thread until Midnight BST (7pm East Coast US/5pm West Coast/1am CET etc.) once it is open it is first come first served. NOW OPEN! Keep your eyes peeled! (Any questions PM me) I will edit each post to include the number of points it has scored IF it has scored any points (so it will be easier to tally up at the end of the game. Scores in posts are primarily for my own benefit and are not final until after the competition has closed).

Re: Fantastic Faleristic Competition.
USSR Order of Glory was modeled after RE St. George Cross. The Cross was resurrected in RF. First photo shows a Soviet soldier wearing RE SGC and OG. The second photo pictures RF sergeant awarded the new SGC for war with Georgia.

Gagarin with Soviet HSU star and Hero of Socialist Labor of Bulgaria, HSL of Czechoslovakia, HSL of Vietnam. All HSL were modeled after the Soviet one. Also, he wears Bulgarian Order of Dimitrov, designed after Soviet Order of Lenin.

Re: Fantastic Faleristic Competition.
RF Order of Kutuzov is a resurrection of the Soviet one. The pic shows a banner of 45th Separate SF Regiment Banner with OK ribbon. The forum software doesn't allow to repost pics already shown in the thread http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...ed-orders.html
