Re: Even Steven
Any idea who he is?
With such a number of polish stuff (some high-end), he is likely to have been in the Polish Army during the war. |

Re: MSU V. K. Blyukher - The Chekist
I have seen his picture as a young imperial cavalry NCO - he had much smaller, but still somewhat extravagant moustache. I belive he started it as soon as he could, and probably had no acces to camera and no money for the photographers when he still had no hair on his face.
btw. that picture was posted somewhere on this formu long time ago. |

Re: MSU V. K. Blyukher - The Chekist
Maybe he was born with it.... it is certainly a very fundamental part of his physical appearance. Was he a smoker?

Re: Sweetness Defined
You chose not to answer my questions. An online database exists where most GPW awards can be researched instantly and free of charge by the awardee's name. Though the site has been discussed on this forum, amazingly people don't take advantage of this invaluable tool.

Re: Soviet Generals with Tsarist Awards
Not sure this has been posted before. The bizarre mega-group of Semyon Mikhailovich Budyonny (Семён Миха́йлович Будённый).

Re: Sweetness Defined
That's news to me. Where's the discussion thread of this great new site?

Общедоступный электронный банк документов 'Подвиг народа'
"http://podvignaroda.mil.ru/" I can't find now where we discussed the site on the forum. Yes, it is in Russian. On Putin's order, award documents from Podolsk archive are being scanned and made available online. At this time, there are over 6 million docs on this site. Re: Sweetness Defined
Thanks for posting about this, Simon. I've known about the site for a while and had searched all the WW2 awards in my collection at one point. But your post prompted me to give it another try. Sure enough, after 10 minutes, I got a few hits! :D Out of the dozen or so WW2 awards/groups in my collection, four returned results. It so happened that all of these were for single awards I had needed to research by serial number. Nevertheless, three of the four hits included documents I hadn't received before, mostly citations and prikazi for missing awards. These will certainly flesh out the history behind the recipient. The major downside of the website, aside from any language barriers, is the lack of award record cards. Those would be incredibly valuable, especially if they could be searched by serial number.

Nikita Krushchev in M-58 Uniform
I recently began reading an excellent book, "Berlin 1961", which includes a fine photo of Soviet Communist Party Secretary Nikita Krushchev addressing the Presidium in 1958 wearing the M-58 uniform of a two star General.
I tried to find that photograph on the internet, but was unable to do so. I did, however, find a different version. I just found it interesting. |
