Re: Fake Academy Badges
Very much agreed. There were three types of this badge that I know of, and all they did at the mint to make the bent metal "pins" that came through the reverse was to make grooves for the bent wires to be as flush as possible without actually tapping off the ends to make them "rivets." Basically, it's all good - as the expression goes.

Re: Fake Academy Badges
Very interesting. I'd have to see bigger pictures, especially of the reverse.
This design is not in any of the reference books I have on badges, so I am more than a little dubious. Hopefully, some others will chime in on this. It is very intriguing. Phillip PS, If you get better photos you can email them to me at devalcourt@gmail.com.

Re: Fake Academy Badges
That looks like a graduation from a diplomatic affairs academy. Soviet diplomats had ranks and uniforms, too.
Some of the badges on the web show a greenish enamel. Any ideas regarding the significance of the colors? Last edited by ibaya; 09-04-2011 at 12:39 PM. |

Re: Fake Academy Badges
A picture of the back would be interesting.
I am also a bit dubious of this one. The lower fixture (quills?) hanging over the sides of the body of the badge seems a bit odd. Simon |

Re: Fake Academy Badges
Background color matters a great deal. It also depends on whether or not it is a civilian or government/military academy. The highest military academies had a white background, the MVD academies typically were a deep red in color, and as you mentioned, gray was the main color of the diplomatic corps academy background. I'd like to think it is because people in this type of occupation really are neither military (technically) nor public/civilian academies and universities - so they are in a "gray area." ;)

Re: Fake Academy Badges
Here they are, some "better" photos from another source...
Don't know what to think. From this one it seems "фотошоп двор" |

Re: Fake Academy Badges
Is this the one that just sold on ePay? I ask because the finish with the missing gold plating is quite similar to that one. From what I can see, it looks fine.
I'm surprised we didn't get more feedback on the previous "mystery" one with the "CCCP" embedded in the center. I am still intrigued by that one. Phillip
