ribbons
The set you show is typical of the 'covered' style used on uniforms in the 1960's and 1970's. They show up all the time, doubt its a fake.
You still got it for a good price. DD |

Hello,
I have a question that may sound irrelevant, but I noticed that some ribbons are not presented consistently when looking on the internet and with Paul MacDaniel Book. What I mean, is that some ribbons (among the ones which are not symmetric) are sometime presented in a way (that matches real ribbon on awards) and some other times, they appear to be left-to-right flipped. By memory, I know of the Order of Labor Glory (3 classes), the 2 veterans medals, 800th years of Moscow and the jubilee medals of GPW. Here is an example with Order of Glory 1st Class. The first image was found on many websites and the second is what Paul MacDaniel's book shows at the bottom of page 406. And when looking at the order itself, we see that the yellow and red lines are at the right of the ribbon... so, is MacDaniel wrong? Or the official ribbons (the one to be worn instead of the award) is really inverted compared to the actual order? To add to this, our old friend Mahdi posted here on the forum a full fantasy fruit salad bar showing ribbons the same as MacDaniel. http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...ght=precedence If this is ok, why is is so? Why official ribbon bar are inverted compared to ribbons on awards? I am more and more confused  Thanks to educate me. I have another questions about ribbons.. Are the ribbons for the medal for Partisan 1st Class and Defense of Stalingrad the same? Mine don't look the same, but my Stalingrad is pretty worn and Partisan 1st class is a replacement almost new (looks more green). The same, are Partisan 2nd class and Defense of Sevastopol have the same ribbons? When looking in Paul MacDaniel's book, they look very very similar, but when looking at actual ribbons, it's difficult to judge because ribbons changes colors over the time and colors fade. If someone know about this or if someone have the official ribbons (from the salad fruit bar), I would appreciate to know more about this. Thanks in advance. The pictures of the ribbons for the order of labor glory on pages 406-407 on PMD's book are not shown in the way they SHOULD look:

Thanks Tal.
But, I am still wondering how could MacDaniel and Mahdi Bseiso made such mistake? So, it seems MacDaniel did few mistakes in the book. Other than this one, I just noted that he says on page 291 : "The medal for Victory over Japan" is worn on the left breast [..] positionned after the jubilee medal For the 30th anniversary of Vivtory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945." It should instead be after the 40th anniversary Last edited by matteti; 06-25-2005 at 03:40 PM. |

Amazingly these two errors are not mentioned on the "Corrections to
The Comprehensive Guide to Soviet orders and medals" by Paul McDaniel and Paul J. Schmitt ! At least not on the Doc I have. Dolf |

If someone could answer my question about the ribbons for Partisans and stalingrad / sevastopol, it would be cery kind !
Also, what happens when someone got more than 1 class of order of glory? Since they all have same ribbons, did they wear 2 or 3 times the same ribbons on the ribbons bar or they wore just one? Thanks. |

No, for the campaign medal ribbons you mentioned, are all slightly different. As to the Glory - yes, a full cavalier would wear three of all the same ribbons, but usually he wore the actual medals. Add to that a fourth identical ribbon for the Victory over Germany medal.
