Re: Named Bravery Medal
I darkened one and have a lightened one. Hope it makes some difference. I can't do much more until I get the medal

Re: Named Bravery Medal
МОРЧИИКИЯ but looks like an I before the last letter "Я"

Re: Named Bravery Medal
To me it rather looks like "MORChITsKIY" or "PORChITsKIY".
could be a surname. |

Re: Named Bravery Medal
I agree with Al-muell, I'd say Porchitsky.

Re: Named Bravery Medal
Just scanned the medal that came in today. Not much better though.

Re: Named Bravery Medal
Н.В. Лопатьино? Beats me on the scratching above. Maybe some sort of abbreviation?

BM 1.059M anomoly awarded 1950
Never say never... Typically, a 1950 awarding would be in the 3M range.
According to my serial number data base, a probable explanation is this piece was among a bloc of awards originally issued to the Coastal Army, then returned after the war to a central authority after being unawarded during the war, to be finally awarded in 1950. Another less likely possibility is the medal was actually issued during the war, but the booklet was issued in 1950, either in exchange for a temporary, field-issued certificate or as a duplicate booklet for one lost earlier. |

Re: BM 1.059M anomoly awarded 1950
That's pretty interesting. Is there any way to know for sure what happened?
