Re: New veteran badges for my collection
Hello All
A little help with this one please. I've been able to figure most of this badge but can't make out what the hyphenated word under Baku is. The rest is 31st Front Line Hospital Squadron 1941. Also if anyone is interested the aircraft is a Polikarpov Po-2. Here's a little information from Wikipedia: U-2S: Air ambulance version, built from 1934. It could take a physician and an injured on a stretcher on a rear fuselage, under a cover. Variant U-2S-1 from 1939 had a raised fuselage top upon the stretcher. From 1941 there were also used two containers for stretchers, that could be fitted over lower wings or two containers for two seating injured each, fitted under lower wings. Thanks |

Re: New veteran badges for my collection
Beautiful badge which reads "Sital Chai" - I assume the geographic locale where the unit was situated.
The "GBF" at the top is an abbreviation for "Civil Aviation Fleet". |

Re: New veteran badges for my collection
Hello All
Just received any bunch of badges and thought I'd share some scans of them. These are three different badges for the 3rd Guards Cavalry Corps. |

Re: New veteran badges for my collection
Here are some more.
1. This one is a document for a female veteran of the NW Front. 2. This one is for a veteran of 13th Guards Rifle Division. This is the second version I have of this badge. The other one doesn't have the red boarder around the Guards badge in the center. 3. This is for a veteran of the 140 Rifle Division. I was happy to be able to get this one. |

Re: New veteran badges for my collection
Some more.
1. For a veteran of the 232nd Rife Division. This is another one I've wanted to get for a long time and I glad to finally have one eventhough the quality isn't that great. 2. 8th Rifle Division aka the "F. Dzerzhinskii Division" 3. This is for a veteran of some Red Banner Division. I couldn't quiet the translation on this one so I'm not sure if it's for a specific division or just a generic veteran badge. |

Re: Veteran badges
These badges are original Soviet manufature, however they are not true veteran badges. They were made by the Soviet government and sold as souvenirs, at kiosks, museums, or the like. If you'll notice there is not a specific unit identified - just a general type of unit such as "rocket forces" or "airborne". These may have been worn by veterans proud of their respective service, however they could have been worn by anyone. True veteran badges are linked to a specific, concrete veteran organization, only eligible to those in unit or with specific links to the organization.
