Personally I would get a Kutuzov 3 or Suvorov 3.

It all depends on what you are planning to do with it.

Interesting specimen on our favorite auction sitE! How many different orders were used to "fix" this one?

I am thinking:
1 OGPW
1 Backplate (shield) from an OGPW2 t1
1 German Pin (corrected per Rusty's post)

Thoughts?

Hi Rusty. I saw this OGPW2 on favorite auction site recently. Please explain what is wrong with this bad enamel or pinback? Im curious about this OGPW2. I am very cautious about this OPGW2's authenticity. I know that most OGPWs always have screwbacks,but not this pinback OPGW2. Is this order repaired??? Thanks regards,James :eek:

James,

At least 2 rays have enamel replaced but it may be all 4. The color is not right.

This OGPW was a suspension type that has been converted to a pinback using what looks to me likea German style attachment.

Looks like the pinback is from a German Iron Cross 1st class.

I agree with Rusty and Alfred about the pinback looks German to me too. The enamel though is hard to tell from the photo but like Rusty says there seems to be a color difference on 4 arms of the star if this is replacement enamel it was superbly done, and the heat damage to the 12 o'clock arm is a real shame.

I was told by a dealer at a gunshow I was at that more or less OGPWs were only given to Generals and such during the war, while lesser officers and enlisted men had to wait until after the war.

I didn't believe him, because I thought that I've seen men wearing OGPWs during the war in photos. He then tried to sell me a 1985 issue OGPW for $40, thus eradicating any credibility he had with me.

So at any rate, OGPWs were issued to enlisted men and officers before the war was over, correct?

Correct. According to OGPW statute, any rank could have been awarded the order for specific actions such as completing a number of successful missions as a member of a tank crew, shooting down an enemy plane with a personal weapon, etc.
