Re: Fake Academy Badges

All the badges above are bought in the beginning 1990´s. What do you think about them.

Especially about the badges made out of one part with years on the front.

I have some doubts about the 1949 technical tank school badge.

thanks and best regards
Andreas

Re: Fake Academy Badges

Andreas,

This whole series has been nicely faked for a long time now. They are readily available in any modern voentorg for a few $...

I think so. My big concern is the blueish color of the main enamel; it's just a tad greyer in real life.
PS. Looks like a carbon copy of ol' Philskiy's badge on page 8 of this thread. For $6 from ebay I ain't complaining.
I would not be surprised if these junior level officers badges are faked using the same base badge as the never-ending stream of fakes of academy levels with shields. I can't see there would be any problem for a skilled craftsman to enamel it blue rather than white. Is your badge very "flat"?

The reverse you mean? If so, yes, it is fairly flat although not completely so. The small nut at the base almost vanishes when I hold it up to view along the axis. It has a small degree of concaveness.

The key thing about these - and the whole reason I posted it to begin with all that time ago - is the final version of the MMD circular mint mark on the reverse. Yes, even the mint marks are faked and very well too, but it is a strange fellow who would sell a fake for just $6 with a fake mint mark. That is about the right price for these very common real badges and I see no reason to worry much. If someone were asking $20 or more then I would be far more wary about it. As it is, I think you did just fine.:thumbsup

Re: Fake Academy Badges

Here's one I just got. IMO an older version.
In the rather unfocused images you can see a mint mark at about 10 o'clock from the screwpost on the reverse.
Came with a nice Pobeda screwplate. I saw today another badge, similar but without the same MM but with the same Pobeda plate.

I think it might be a good idea to start a thread in the (non-fake) portion of this site about these specific badges. Andreas, you with me? :idea

Some general info gleaned from a quick websurf:
Soviet Military School (or Acedemy) graduate badge, issued to the graduates of military schools. High quality piece made in Brass and "hot baked" enamels; shows maker mark on the reverse.
Width: 37 mm, height: 36 mm.
screw plate showing the late star-shaped mark of Pobeda Factory.
This "unified" type badge for all branches of service was introduced in 1957 and used until the collapse of the Soviet Union.
For Soviet junior level commissioned officer's (jr. lieutenant and up).

USSR military prize badge for graduation from a Higher Military School

Military Academy School "VU" badge

Academy - Академия,
Institute of higher learning - Высшее учебное заведение,
school - школа
