I would agree with Art - stay away unless you know the piece is genuine for sure (like if you're buying it from the original recipient or their family). I would think that the value for 2nd Class Order of Glory would be as follows (most to least expensive), assuming they are common variations with normal numbers:
1) mint condition (issued) 2) extra fine condition with original gold plating 3) mint condition (unissued) 4) fine condition with re-applied gold plating 5) lesser grades with no modifications That's my opinion. I would be very careful purchasing this order, and if the price is too good to be true, consider it a red flag. Another red flag, as many of you probably know, is if the order has excellent gold-plating and considerable wear on the center medallion. It's a tricky issue. PS Yes, it is possible to have an issued order in mint condition. Some recipients of this award laminated it entirely (or covered it with some form of clear plastic) that it remained intact. |

Glory
Hi
I have 3 unissued Orders of Glory 3rd Class in my collection. The 3 Orders were purchased at the same time from the same dealer as unissued. The numbers on them are 808107,808182, and 808189. I have paid $18 to $20 each for issued Orders of Glory 3rd Class and I paid $15 each for unissued Orders of Glory 3rd Class. All were purchased from a major dealer. Thanks,Al |

Order of Glory Cavalier photo
I purchased this photograph from my supplier a while ago. It shows the same Cavalier holder of the Order of Glory that is in McDaniels book on page 198 (he's even wearing the same tie!). Can anyone make out his name? it's written in a fancy calligraphic cyrillic and I can't make it out..

Order of Glory 2nd Class Type II Thin
Hello All,
I just received a Order of Glory 2nd Class. It is type 2, thin type and is 1.1mm thick at the tips. Is the fact that a 2nd class is a type 2 thin a good indication that it is legit? The serial number is in the correct range 12317. Thanks, Tom |

Here is more info on the 19th Army.
While the second formation (which as with all follow-on formations in the wartime Red Army has nothing to do with the first - not the same personnel or district, etc.) was formed in 1942 it did not see much combat until 1945. It maintained manly defensive lines in Karelia/Finnish Border. On 26 February 1945 it was commanded by Lieutenant-General Kozlov and transfered south from the Finnish border to the 2nd Belorussian Front (although it remained under the Reserve of the High Command RSVK). In late February, it fought in the East Pomeranian Operation but was not involved in the liberation or Koenigsberg. On 6 March Lieutenant-General Romanovskiy took over as commander. In March, it fought in the Oder-Niesse-Baltic Operation near Gdynia. It fought against the German 2nd army. On 28 March 1945 it participated in the liberation of Gdynia. In April, it was on the extreme right flank of the 2nd Belorussian Front, right on the Baltic sea coast. It held a defensive position during the Berlin operation and then moved into Swinemunde in the last days of the war. It was taken off the Stavka list of operational units on 5 May 1945. Interesting that your Glory was awarded in February when the unit was not too active. I would guess it is much rare than an award later during the operations in East Prussia and Poland. The Poirier and Connor book is OK, but based on obolete and not totally dependable info. I am going to list some longer comments today on it and Red Army unit research in general under the research section. Shawn |

You can find additional memoirs by members of the 19th at the I remember website - they also have a Karelian Front photo album.
