You mean the book "Bulgarian Orders and Medals" by Petko Pavlov? Who is Todor Petrov?! Is the text of this book equally in Bulgarian and English, or as some others just a couple of pages in English? Thanks a lot, Dolf Last edited by Dolf; 11-16-2004 at 03:34 AM. |

Dannybou,
Thanks a lot. That is the newest edition, unfortunately it only has a summary in English and the legends of the pictures. The previous edition (a bit more expensive) apparently has the entire text translated in English. Thanks again, Dolf |

Dolf, I am told by a dealer of Bulgarian awards here in Canada, that there will be another edition of that book out in a few months, entirely in english. I also want this book, but I will wait for the new edition to come out.

Guys,
I am confused by your posts. Just to clarify, there are two main references on Bulgarian awards: 1) by Professor Petko Pavlov - "Bulgarian Orders and Medals". This book is in both English and Bulgarian, the info in each language is identical to the other. I can confirm this, as I read both English and Bulgarian. This is the best reference, sort of McDaniel's Comprehensive Guide for Bulgarian collectors. Sells around $80-100. 2) the other one is by Todor Petrov. Not as complete as the first one, but still worth to have. Nice feature about Petrov's book - it lists number of awards given out. Petrov's book is mainly in Bulgarian, with brief summaries in English. Notes to the photographs are also in English (and Bulgarian). Sells for $60-80 Both books cover Communist awards, as well as Royal ones. I have not heard of any expected new editions for any of these two. Both books were recently published (in 2002), making new editions highly unlikely. Petrov's book has older edition as well, which sells for $40+. Hope this helps. William |

William
I was about to buy Prof Pavlov's book from a dealer when he advised me that the book was being translated in english in it's entirety and to wait a few months. I am in the dark when it comes to books as I have no way of checking on this.

William,
Sorry, I messed up with the names of the authors. You're right, what I considered the newest version of Petko Pavlov's book is indeed a book by Todor Petrov, apparently published on March this year (3rd edition). This book is in Bulgarian and only has a summary in English, as well as the names and description of each award under the award's pictures. Also apparently, the edition of Petko Pavlov's book that I know was published on March 2003, and on this one the text is both in Bulgarian and English. Dannybou, Which one of these books you was told there would be a new edition soon? Thanks, Dolf |

Here is the email I received from the medal dealer here in Canada:
"I have received a reply from Bulgaria about the book by Professor Todor Petrov. I can get this book for you if you want it but my friend there also suggests waiting a bit to see when this book is going to be out in it's fully translated Bulgarian/ English edition."

Dannybou,
So in fact they don't know if there will be a complete translated version in English or when. Thanks a lot, Dolf |
