One was sold this week on e... for $252. I bought all my afghan medals and orders for less than $70 each. Since one year it's impossible to find them at this price.

Dat is correct, the market is far too immature to accurately assess what these pieces are "worth", which ultimately depends on whatever someone will give you for it. |

Afghan medals and orders
When I was in Afghanistan last year, surprisingly enough, there weren't many to be found at all. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to drive up prices. I still would not want to pay more than $30 for the Afghan Bravery Medal. I just wanted to have a complete set of Afghanistan medals and orders during Soviet occupation, but it was really difficult to find any at the weekly market. Granted, I didn't get to go off-post to Kabul, Kandahar, Herat, Shindand, or Mazar-E-Sharif...didn't want to lose my head for some souvenir, but the Afghan vendors couldn't find any to sell. Like every US military post in the world, if you want something the locals will find it for you if it was out there.
I really wanted the first version of the April Revolution medal, but couldn't find any. As for the Afghan Hero Star, I was told that they were kept locked away in a bank in Kabul. Personally, I haven't even seen a photo of that mysterious "star". On a different note, if you were a bayonet collector, Afghanistan is a paradise. I have never seen so much bayonets in one spot other than an arms room. I actually looked at over 200 UK bayonet pattern 1907 and 1913 from one vendor!!! Dat |

Dat, I had a friend who was in Afghanistan who bought everything up before you got there...
Most of the Afghan stuff is out of Russia, presumably from the mint... |

Order of Gallantry with award number?
I found this Order while browsing a while back I'm not sure where now I think it was a Russian site. Anyway what makes this T1 interesting is that it does have a number, or what appears to be on the reverse.
Eddie.

I just got one yesterday in a local gunshow, it have a maker mark similar to the one on Eddie photo's. It have three times the letter who look like a 7 then some kind of a A after it. I had try to make picture but they are really bad so we see nothing on it...

I finally manage to get mine (65 euro on e***, a good deal). 1st type (1985-87). Soviet made, very high quality, fine details, hot enamel. Numbered (1371, if I'm right), apparently 2nd type are not numbered.
The doc that came with. If someone can translate... |

Better view of the averse without dust.
Front of the doc. Notice the afghan order of gallantry beside the soviet red star. |
